January 2012 - Month 1
It has been four months since we arrived in Paris, on a wet but unseasonably warm day two days before the end of December. By warm, I mean the temperatures were nothing like the blistering dip of freezing weather that blew in over the next two weeks. Had we known that we'd experience one of the worst European cold snaps (although Paris was spared much of it) we might have been intimidated! LOL! The warmer climate (warmer being relative) was wonderful transition for our trio of Southern Californians (née Texans),
Blissfully ignorant of the change to come, we explored the city bundled in the thickest thermal outwear and underwear we could buy in SoCal. Thankfully, we'd been told to skip the department stores and head straight to the skiing section at the sports shop!!
Even in the cold grey of winter République is still magnifique~! (Please excuse any missing accents, my keyboard doesn't have the french keys). Located in the 11th arrondissement, the statue that is a representative of the nation as the flag of France is a breath taking sight when you exit the metro station named for her. For our next stay, we'll be staying in the 11th, if I have any choice of the matter. It is my favorite neighborhood in Paris and seeing the statue (which one could argue conjures the kind of feelings of patriotism something like our own Statue of Liberty) reminds one of the history that is all around you in Paris.
